This is chilling. A fifty-one-year-old grandmother was prepped for surgery to undergo a mastectomy for breast cancer. Just before being wheeled in, the doctor asked her about Medical Aid in Dying, Canada’s gentle term for their euthanasia program. She told him absolutely not but went into surgery fearful about her wellbeing during a procedure meant to save her life. Later, before undergoing a second mastectomy the doctor again asked about euthanasia and then again during her recovery. Doctor Leonie Herx said staffing shortages in many Canadian hospitals means many patients not at risk of imminent death are being offered euthanasia. The UK has a thirty-seven-billion-pound deficit with their healthcare. Where will this go? We don’t want to go down the same deadly path.
