As America heads toward the upcoming election, it is becoming clear that this may be the most pivotal decision of our lifetimes. The results will not only shape the nation’s political landscape, but also determine the fate of countless unborn children.
While Life Issues Institute does not endorse political parties or specific candidates for office, we do inform you of the dangers facing life. Pro-abortion advocates have seized this election cycle as an opportunity to push for extreme candidates and amendments which would extend abortion far beyond what was legal under Roe v. Wade.
In some states the radical pro-abortion activists have already had a measure of success. One such example is Minnesota where several far-reaching pieces of legislation, like the so-called Protect Reproductive Options Act, have been signed by Governor Tim Walz. Following this legislation there is now no protection for the unborn and there is no restraint on abortion, even until birth.
Abortion advocates seek to replicate the results in Minnesota across the country. Devious constitutional amendments will appear on the ballot in ten states, many of which seek to enable abortion until birth. Deceptive language combined with out-of-state money seeks to present these radical proposals as reasonable compromises.
If successful these amendments, like the one proposed in Florida, would undo existing protection for mothers and their children. Florida’s Amendment 4 includes no definitions for crucial terms like health, healthcare provider (aka abortionist), or viability allowing cavernous loopholes which enable abortion until birth. In addition, Amendment 4 would undo legislation that protects parental rights.
In congress attempts have already been made to go beyond Roe v. Wade. The Women’s Health Protection Act, which nearly passed, would have tied the hands of state legislatures preventing them banning partial-birth abortions. The Access to Birth Control Act would have forced pharmacists to fill chemical abortion pill prescriptions in violation of their religious objections. In addition, the Abortion is Health Care Everywhere Act, the Reproductive Health Travel Fund Act, and the Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance Act would all force taxpayers to fund abortions.
The outcome of this year’s election will likely tip the scales of the balance of power in our nation. If radical pro-abortionists are elected to office, they will go beyond Roe and the unborn will pay the ultimate price. The stakes could not be higher. It is more important now than ever before that we are educated on all issues facing life. Exercising our right to vote gives a voice to the voiceless.
You can count on Life Issues Institute to continue shining a light on the ugly reality of abortion while protecting innocent life from fertilization to natural death.
