New Resource: Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide Global Timeline
Around the world the sanctity of life faces many threats. Assisted suicide and euthanasia are one such danger.
Life Issues Institute has gathered information from across the globe and created a timeline of events in states and countries that legalized doctor-assisted death. The evidence is clear: once assisted suicide or euthanasia is legalized, safeguards inevitably erode over time.
Advocates of these practices present them as acts of mercy—a dignified way to die. Much like the early rhetoric of pro-abortionists, euthanasia is initially framed as being safe, rare, and strictly regulated.
However, the data tells a different story. Our new resource demonstrates that, without exception, countries and states that legalize any form of doctor-assisted death soon face pressure to expand these laws. Many nations succumb to the pressure. For example, Belgium legalized euthanasia in 2002. Just 12 years later, the law was amended to include children.
Brad Mattes, President of Life Issues Institute, stated, “When it comes to Britian’s proposed assisted suicide law, they’re a divided nation. The opposition is strong because they’ve seen the failure of such legislation in more than a dozen nations. And we’ve made it easier for them to see the long-term reality of going down this slippery slope.”
This resource serves as a powerful tool for international use—ideal for legislators, educators, and all advocates for LIFE. Life Issues Institute will continue to provide educational tools and resources as we change the hearts and minds of millions.
