Abortion Devalues Women

Bradley Mattes   |   August 01, 2024

Recent public actions and comments have been both deeply disturbing and instructive why women are increasingly devalued in society today.

Last week US District Judge Catherine Eagles placed a permanent injunction against part of North Carolina’s abortion law. Judge Eagles, nominated by President Barack Obama, blocked the requirement that before a chemical abortion the abortionist must first confirm the unborn child is in the womb. This rules out a potentially life-threatening situation of an ectopic pregnancy, a pregnancy outside of the womb.

Long History of Harm to Women

Dr. David Elia was a highly respected early researcher with chemical abortion. He and his colleagues had strong opinions about protecting women’s health – opinions that directly conflict with Judge Eagles’ action.

  • “It is evident that use of RU 486 as an abortifacient will require strict medical follow-up, so that largescale use will not lead to de-medicalization of induced abortion.” (emphasis added)
  • “Although infrequent, these possible [hemorrhagic] complications justify medical supervision. In practical terms, the woman must be informed and must have access to adequate medical facilities.”
  • There is a “need for at least three visits to the medical facility including at least a four hours stay after the administration of the misoprostol.” (the second drug)
  • Researchers cautioned against “significantly higher levels” of post-abortion side effects.
  • “We are not going to give this method to women who are not able to understand what is going on.” Chemical abortion, he said, was not an easy experience.

Back when there was more transparency about the dangers of these pills, Kara Cadwallader, the chief medical officer for Planned Parenthood Great Northwest, Hawaii, Alaska, Indiana, Kentucky expressed her concern in the January 2, 2022, issue of Idaho Statesman. “Now women are often getting [abortion] medication from the internet. … There’s no one supervising their care at all, counseling them about what to expect. If they have a complication or problem, they have no one to watch out for them.”

Abortion Frees Men and Empowers Predators

During a “White Dudes for Harris” virtual campaign event, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg said, “But, of course, men are also more free in a country where we have a president who stands up for things like access to abortion care.”

With such a callous attitude toward women from the Biden administration, it’s not surprising that we are seeing a deeply disturbing expansion of predatory behavior against them. The widespread access to chemical abortion pills has resulted in an increasing number of assailants using the pills to attack pregnant women. A 24-year documented list of predatory use has been meticulously assembled.

Advocates of abortion will find themselves on the wrong side of history when it comes to safeguarding women’s health. A compelling reason why we must redouble our efforts to protect women and their babies.
