Mallory was born without a uterus and told she’d never have children. She and her husband Nick, through the help of her sister, used surrogacy to become parents of a daughter. Then Mallory became the recipient of a uterus transplant. About nine months after the surgery, she became pregnant by in vitro fertilization and delivered a son in May – the first such delivery outside a clinical trial. The team at the University of Alabama at Birmingham say they have a few other pregnant mothers and want this protocol to become standard care for infertility. I expect that men in the process of so-called transitioning will be lining up to have transplants. Medical advancements are moving at light speed. Let’s hope and pray moral ethics can be part of the decisions.
