“I picked her up and held her. We locked eyes, and that was it. I’ve loved her ever since that moment.” These were the words of an Ocala, Florida firefighter pulling the night shift. He was awoken at 2 am by the alarm of the Safe Haven Baby Box where a mother can relinquish her child, no questions asked. The firefighter who wished to remain anonymous didn’t call his wife right away because it was in the middle of the night, but he was sure she’d agree this baby was theirs. They struggled with infertility for a decade and were registered to adopt in Florida. Two days after Zoey was placed in the box she was home with the couple. In April they adopted her. God’s perfect plan.
