Some say the national debate over the welfare of America’s unborn babies and born children has deteriorated to between normal and crazy. That, my friend, is an understatement. And here’s an excellent case in point. Erin Healy a Democrat member of South Dakota’s state legislature made an outrageous statement in response to pending legislation. She tweeted, “Extremist group Family Heritage Alliance said this morning that the safest place for kids are in families that have a married mom and dad. What a dangerous and un-American belief.” Her comment generated a massive backlash. Science and research show an intact family is safer for children. While not all achieve the ideal, calling a family consisting of both a mom and dad un-American falls into the crazy column.
