Sometimes a child rises to the occasion better than many adults. In this case, Jalessa Young went into labor two weeks early. Her five-year-old son, King, heard her mother’s cries in the bathroom and asked, “Momma, when will the pain go away?” She responded, “When your baby brother comes.” So, King rubbed her back, but when the cries didn’t stop, this young child said, “I’m gonna call the ambulance,” and he did. King also gave the dispatcher directions to his house and made sure the door was unlocked. Paramedics got there just in time to deliver his little brother. Dad rushed home but missed all the action. King’s response to his mother in crisis determined whether Jalessa would attempt to deliver her baby alone or have the professional help she desperately needed.
