This is exciting news! The Down Syndrome Diagnosis Network has been working for eight years to get the medical community to use updated medical information wrapped in positive words when sharing a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome with parents. The American Academy of Pediatrics announced new guidelines when delivering a diagnosis. Some of the specifics include doctors should congratulate families, refer to the baby by name, leave out personal biases, use up-to-date and accurate information, and connect parents to local support groups and resources. Biased or ill-informed doctors account for many deaths by abortion because of the way they approach the Down syndrome diagnosis. This is a huge breakthrough for babies and their families. Congratulations to the Diagnosis Network! Well done!
