Yesterday was World Down Syndrome Day and I’m still celebrating! I’m applauding Kayleigh Williamson who made history last month when she became the first person with Down syndrome to complete the Ascension Seton Austin Marathon. She finished the twenty-six-mile race in under seven hours. It would’ve taken me seven days! Kayleigh’s dad abandoned them, and she suffered from bullying and six serious health issues. But it didn’t keep Kayleigh and her mom, Sandy down. They run as a team and as a result, most of Kayleigh’s medical issues resolved. She’s also written a children’s book called It’s Cool To Be Me. Just think of the number of so-called normal people who haven’t achieved what Kayleigh has. She’s just one example why we celebrate World Down Syndrome Day.
