It’s called Victoria’s Kitchen, a café that offers a three-month paid internship to people with Down syndrome. It trains individuals so they can obtain full-time employment opportunities elsewhere. Rob Taylor, an executive chef, left his career to head up the program. The first class consists of seven interns who serve breakfast and lunch, Monday through Friday. In addition to food, the café hosts a store that sells products made by persons with Down syndrome. These products come from all over America and as far away as England. I love to see more ways people are mainstreaming these wonderful people who have so much to give. Victoria’s Kitchen honors Victoria Marsh, a young woman with Down syndrome who died from cancer last year. She had a passion for cooking and life.
