The neonatal intensive care unit at Advocate Children’s Hospital experienced a unique milestone this summer. In an environment where babies are loved, nurtured, and celebrated, the staff in Oak Lawn, Illinois had good reason to celebrate. In one month’s time, five of their NICU nurses gave birth to their own babies. The newborns who graduated from the womb to breathing air all met for a reunion of sorts when the mothers got together while on well-deserved maternity leave. These nurses worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic nurturing babies in the NICU while assuring the worried parents. Now it’s their turn to be on the receiving end of some time with their own newborns. In case you’re wondering, there were three boys and two girls – all precious bundles of joy.
