“A Reason for Hope: The Truth About Down Syndrome” Special Programming Exposes Abortion Industry’s Targeting of Disabled Children

Washington, D.C.
  – Following the 47th annual March for Life, Life Issues Institute, the grassroots partner of Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) released a special TV program exposing the practice of disability-discrimination abortions, which most frequently target babies diagnosed with Down syndrome. The 30-minute special also highlights the joyful lives of people with Down syndrome and all that they bring to their families and communities.

“People with disabilities are preyed upon by the abortion industry,” said Brad Mattes, President of Life Issues Institute. “This new program is a meant to educate Americans on the sad reality of this modern-day eugenics effort and bring hope to mothers and families who may be given a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome. These beautiful individuals deserve the same protection and respect afforded to others. We also highlight efforts of pro-life women policymakers looking to protect these children in the law.”

The program features several women whose lives have been impacted by Down syndrome. Shauna Amick shares the story of her daughter, Sarah Hope. Utah State Representative Karianne Lisonbee shares her experience of enacting a Utah law to protect these lives. Amanda Stirone, J.D., an associate scholar with the Charlotte Lozier Institute, weighs in with a legal perspective and explains the importance of legislation to stop disability discrimination abortions. Lobbyist Katie Shaw shares her experience advocating for people like herself, with Down syndrome, in the public sphere. Katie was recently named as a member of the Pro-life Voices for Trump Coalition.

The SBA List family of organizations includes Susan B. Anthony List, Charlotte Lozier Institute, Women Speak Out PAC, SBA List Candidate Fund, the National Pro-life Women’s Caucus, and Life Issues Institute.
