Study Shows Suicidal Impact of Netflix Program

Bradley Mattes   |   May 20, 2019

Netflix has lots of good programming, but also some that isn’t appropriate for your child’s or grandchild’s viewing.  One of those to watch out for is Thirteen Reasons Why.  The program has glamorized suicide and has been accused of being responsible for two teen deaths.  Now there’s a study funded by the National Institutes of Health and published in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.  The research shows there were nearly two-hundred more deaths of youth to suicide after the release of this Netflix program than normally would be expected.  Adolescence can be a very difficult time when they’re vulnerable to the media’s influence.  Parents, please be continually aware of what your children are watching.
