Remember the child’s tale of Pinocchio whose nose would grow every time he told a lie? The Washington Post just gave Planned Parenthood president Leana Wen Four Pinocchios for lying. She repeatedly said, “thousands of women died every year” from illegal abortions before Roe v Wade. The problem of course is it isn’t true, and she knew it. Wen was quoting a wildly exaggerated study from the nineteen-thirties before the advent of penicillin. The government’s Centers for Disease Control reported thirty-nine deaths from illegal abortion the year before Roe v Wade. Each death was a tragedy, but a far cry from thousands. We’ve been saying this for years, but now it’s making headlines because a media outlet favoring abortion has sounded the alarm. Well done!
