In states that have passed physician-assisted suicide laws, patients are now literally at risk for losing their lives. Dr. Brian Callister of Nevada had two patients who needed life-saving treatments, but his hospital didn’t offer them. So he called the insurance companies of the patients who lived in California and Oregon. Both states passed assisted suicide laws. In both cases insurance reps. refused to pay for the treatment, but what they said next shocked Dr. Callister. They suggested the patients kill themselves with legally prescribed medication. These aren’t isolated situations. Money drives America’s healthcare system, and we’re seeing a trend of seriously-ill patients being refused costly treatment, and instead offered suicide drugs.
