An unusual situation has developed in Italy. Giuseppe and Aurora Bellandi had a son and felt they were past the point of having more children. That’s when Aurora became unexpectedly pregnant. Because of Aurora’s health and financial concerns, the couple chose to discard their baby through a late-term abortion. But God intervened, the abortion failed and Elisa was born anyway. Now her parents are suing the doctors for one-million euros. Giuseppe declared “The mistake wasn’t mine, so it’s not fair that I pay.” As the father of four children and aware of the process I’m not terribly sympathetic toward this father. Elisa is now a teenager and growing up knowing she was unwanted and survived an attempt to kill her by abortion. That’s an unfair burden to impose on anyone.
