Ben and Mary were in the same elementary school class for three years. Mary has Down syndrome and Ben always made sure she was included in activities. When they were in the fourth grade, Ben promised to take Mary to her prom. They eventually went to separate high schools to be reconnected last year at a football game. Ben was the quarterback. This spring Ben surprised Mary with a “pomprosal” complete with balloons. The couple got all dressed up and their fourth-grade teacher even came to see them off. Ben’s mother, Lisa, said she’s always taught her kids to put other first, love from their heart and stand up for what they believe in. This viral story is now teaching tons of kids that people with Down syndrome are special and worthy of a nice time at the prom.
