Twisted Surrogacy

Bradley Mattes   |   April 29, 2015

It’s called assisted reproductive technology and it started with artificial insemination. Then, thanks to a scientific breakthrough, in vitro fertilization came along which opened the door to surrogacy, which gave birth to this twisted situation. A twenty-something single male wanted to become a father, so his mother offered to be a surrogate for him. So his own DNA contribution was combined with a donor egg and implanted into his mother’s womb. The man had to adopt his biological son because, legally, his mother was the mother. He was the brother, but now he’s the father. The infant was the woman’s son, but now he’s her grandson. Sound confusing? Just imagine explaining it to the baby some day. Call me old fashioned, but I like the way God set up having babies better.
