Brett and Samantha Branham were expecting their third child when a prenatal test came back positive. It indicated an increased risk of spina bifida. While in a so-called counseling session with the genetic specialist, she laid out all the negative things that might result, creating a total sense of despair for the parents. Then she encouraged them to have an ultrasound and said, “If you do not like what you see, you can always get an abortion.” Brett was disgusted. I believe someone should tell this death-peddling specialist that having children isn’t like window shopping—only buying what’s not in the scratch and dent sale. Brett and Samantha’s baby was loved just as much then as he is now that he’s born. To suggest he be killed for not being someone’s vision of perfection is malpractice.
