Better a Criminal in China Than a Mother

Bradley Mattes   |   April 30, 2014

It’s better to be a criminal in China than a pregnant mother who didn’t get government permission to have a baby. In China criminals can only be arrested by certain people and with a warrant. While mothers can be arrested at the drop of a hat by anyone in the Family Planning Bureau. Criminals enjoy certain basic constitutional rights and the ability to hire an attorney. Mothers enjoy no rights and no court will take on a “family planning” issue. The unborn baby of a pregnant criminal is protected. Execution for high crimes is carried out after the baby is born, and she can communicate with family from prison. A mother and her baby get no such protection and aren’t allowed to ever speak to the family until the huge fine is paid for the illegal pregnancy.
