Many Christians are dedicated to providing a forever family to the world’s orphans through adoption. One of the main issues fueling this passion is sharing the gospel message with their adopted children who’ll be eternally saved. But, many who’re caught up in a mission of salvation may be missing or ignoring fraud or trafficking with international adoption. Professor David Smolin at Baptist-affiliated Samford University and his wife adopted two daughters from India. Later they learned the birth-mother had temporarily placed the girls in an orphanage, expecting them back. What a heartache! Most international adoptions are free of illegalities and a blessing to all concerned. But please be discerning. Ask your agency what they’re doing to avoid this major pitfall.
