November is National Adoption Awareness Month. So here’s a heartwarming story, for Adoption Week on Life Issues. Ryan and Erica Onufer wanted to adopt before having biological children so the adopted ones would know they were chosen, not an afterthought. They began the process, looking into a sibling group of not more than three. Then the adoption agency left a voice message. They needed parents for an emergency placement, a high-risk case of four siblings—one, two, three and six. The couple didn’t hesitate. All children were malnourished and in diapers, three unable to talk, one refused to. The youngest had a fractured skull. Many would say it’d be best if these children were never born, but all are now doing remarkably well. We just need to be open to God’s plan.
