Consider Joseph’s first reaction to Mary’s pregnancy. As far as he was concerned, the relationship was over. Sure, an angel appearing to explain it all was bound to get his attention. But think of the whispering and ribbing Joseph probably endured in the carpenter’s shop. An unwed pregnancy wasn’t accepted. It could’ve made him an outcast in his own town. But Joseph trusted God’s will for their lives and obeyed. Many men who do engage in sex outside of marriage, opt for abortion to prevent any whispering or ribbing by their family or friends. If only they had known the temporary social turmoil would have been minor compared to the many years of anguish abortion brings. This Christmas season let’s remember these hurting fathers and pray for them.
