Leighann and Ryan Marquiss were 12 weeks into their fourth pregnancy when they got the tragic news. Their unborn child had only half a heart, and it was growing outside his body. Doctors told the couple no child has ever survived such monumental problems and encouraged them to abort their son, Ryan. Even when faced with a zero chance they’d take home a child, Leighann and Ryan said no to abortion. And they were right. It’d be wrong to intentionally take the life of this baby, regardless of whether or not he’d survive. But the silver lining to this story is Ryan’s now three years old. He had surgery two weeks after being born and will likely face more in the future—maybe even a heart transplant. And Ryan’s family was extra blessed for following Gods will.
