Barack Obama Picks Judicial Activist for Supreme Court

Editor   |   May 26, 2009

Cincinnati, OH (May 26, 2009) – President Obama has fulfilled a campaign promise to the extreme liberal element of his party by nominating Sonia Sotomayor to the US Supreme Court. Judge Sotomayor currently sits on the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Bradley Mattes, executive director of Life Issues Institute, said, “Judge Sotomayor poses the greatest threat of advancing judicial activism on our nation’s highest court. Americans who believe judges shouldn’t legislate from the bench should be very concerned about this nomination.” The judge’s own words expose her personal philosophy of judicial activism. During a forum panel at Duke University Law School on February 25, 2005, she said the “Court of Appeals is where policy is made.” Her full remarks were posted to YouTube.

This nomination is contrary to the President’s claims that he would like to reduce the number of abortions. If confirmed by the US Senate, it is believed Judge Sotomayor would vote to uphold abortion, thus solidifying Mr. Obama’s pro-abortion legacy.

Dr. John C. Willke, president of Life Issues Institute stated, “While Justice Souter has been quietly pro-abortion during his time on the US Supreme Court, we expect Judge Sotomayor to be more aggressively pro-abortion. Her public statements have shown she believes the Court is a venue to further her political agenda.”
